"The renewable methanol economy will completely revolutionize the global energy system"

A big challenge to substitute this volumes, but we're working hard to build up a fossil-free future!

Methanol - an overview

  • Methanol, also called carbinol, methyl alcohol, wood spirit, or wood alcohol, is a colourless liquid with very little taste. It's a non-drinkable alcohol. Never mix-up with ethanol, which is drinkable alcohol!

  • Methanol's chemical formula is CH3OH (CH4O). It has a molecular weight of 32.04, boils at 64.7 °C and freezes at -97 °C. The energy density for methanol is around 22 MJ/kg.

  • Methanol is miscible with water and most organic liquids. It is flammable and burns with a nearly invisible blue flame, because of no nitrogen oxides (NOx), no sulphur oxides (SOx) and no soot emissions like diesel or gasoline.

  • Methanol occurs naturally and is even produced in the human body in extremely small quantities.

  • Methanol is biodegradable and is used by many microorganisms in nature.

  • Methanol has become a major feedstock for the synthesis of acetic acid and large amounts of methanol are consumed in the production of methyl esters.

  • Renewable methanol only emits water steam and carbon dioxide while burning, the same amount which was used for producing the renewable methanol. It's a closed CO2 loop! MY-METHANOL uses fossil-free CO2 as an important resource.
